Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, held the second weekend of July at MacRae Meadows in the shadow of Grandfather Mountain, NC, is one of the largest - many say THE largest - of the Highland Games in the United States. This year, Clan Colquhoun had two athletes competing in "The Bear", a 5-mile uphill run from Linville, NC to the top of Grandfather Mountain.

Mary and Nathaniel belong to the family of Theodore Fitz Randolph of Birmingham, AL and Banner Elk, NC who attend the GMHG sponsoring their own Kirkpatrick family tent. Many of Ted’s grandchildren participate in the track and field competitions.
